How To Measure My Window For Ready Made Curtains
The Easy Way
The first thing you need to do is make sure you have a tape measure and a pen and paper to write your window sizes on.
Right here we go,measure the width of your pole or track.not the window, normally your pole or track is wider than you window.Or if you have not put a track or pole up yet, please allow a bit extra for this.Lets say your track is 4ft wide (48" or 120 cm).Now lets measure your drop from the top of the track to where you want your curtains to finish, that measurement is 74" (188 cm).
You will need double gather for 3"tape top curtains for them to hang nice,it does not matter if its a bit more or a bit less.If you are having ring top or eyelet curtains you will not need as much gather as these do not have the 3"tape to gather up.
These are the normal sizes of ready-made curtains you can buy.
46"wide x 54"drop
46"wide x 72"drop
46"wide x 90"drop
66"wide x 54"drop
66"wide x 72"drop
66"wide x 90"drop
90"wide x 54"drop
90"wide x 72"drop
90"wide x 90"drop
Looking at our measurements we have we will need the 46" wide, that is for each curtain giving us 92" in total
which is fine as it is just under double gather for our size. The drop of 72" will be OK as i can get away with the 72"drop on my window,or i could have the 90"drop if i wanted my curtains to go down to the floor.
If you want exact drops for your window you can either have them altered your self or you can buy made to measure curtains, this means they will me made to your exact size.
Please remember to take your sizes with you as this will make it a lot easier when you are asked what is your window size, the sales person will be able to sort it all out for you,so the only thing you will need to do is pick your design and colour.
